late-fall layers

And white pants after Labor Day.

Wide-legged pants are having a moment, and I love it. Skinny jeans will forever be the staple, but sometimes, a girl needs something to pack more punch. Enter: the wide-leg pant. Retro in silhouette and instant coolness from the moment they're zipped up.

I'd been lusting after a pair of white trousers since last spring. But alas, everything becomes elusive as soon as you want it. I first fell in love with the Jesse Kamm Sailor pants — you know, the ones that are all over Pinterest — but their price tag made me want to weep. Let's just say it happened once in a dream and leave it at that.

And then, along comes Everlane. Their wide-legged crop (at a much more affordable price point) sold out in the blink of an eye. Then came the waiting list for five months. And then, in late August, my white pants finally arrived; just in time for "no white after Labor Day." But rules are meant to be broken, and I'm taking my white pants with me year-round (provided I'm not visiting a particularly muddy location).

Styling these for the fall season was simple: I threw on my favorite coat and kept the color palette simple. I've never been one to match my shoes to my bag, but I'll definitely match my shoes to my outerwear.

Sarah and I had the best fall weather during this shoot in Downtown Salem, and it suited the layered look perfectly. Well-timed wind gusts go hand-in-hand with a long coat.

As long as the rain holds off, this outfit may become the new go-to.
